A Midnight Ride Gone Bad

Melanie was a 16 year old girl.
She and her parents, the Parkers, had just moved into a new house in St. Cloud, M.N.
They lived most of their lives in Huntington Beach, C.A. So this was a big change for her.
But she loved it.

They found a huge house, it almost looked like a mansion.
For once, things were going good for Melanie.
Being an only child, she was very spoiled.
But also very overprotected by her parents.

She went to her room to unpack her stuff.
Melanie got the master bedroom.
School would be starting in a week, and so would cheerleading.
Pretty soon, she'd have friends over.
She'd be invited to sleepovers, parties, and dances. She couldn't wait.

On the first day of school, everything went perfect. She made new friends,
and even scored a date.
She thought to herself, 'I wanna be popular, and I'm gonna be. Cuz i got a date
with Matt, the star of the baseball team. To be well known in this school, you have to "roll with the best." Dating Matt will sure help me out.

There was only one problem stopping her.
Melanie's parents always said, "You're too young to date."
"Well, I just won't tell them the whole truth.
They won't find out. Besides, what can go wrong?"
Melanie said.
So she asked her parents if she could stay with her friends that night.
They thought about it, and said, "Well, Okay."

Excited, she got ready for the date.
But as she rushed up and down, she began to feel guilty about lying.
"But, what's a pizza, a party, and a midnight ride?" Melanie asked herself.

Well, the pizza was good, and the party was great.
But the midnight ride would have to wait.
Matt was already half drunk by this time.
He kissed her and said he was just fine.
Then, matt went outside with some friends.
Melanie saw the smoke rings forming in the dark.
They weren't your typical cigarette rings, they were marijuana rings.
Melanie couldn't believe Matt would smoke one of those things.
Matt came back inside, and said he was ready to go.
But only after he'd take another hit.
They got in the car for the midnight ride,
Melanie knowing matt was too drunk to drive.
They finally made it to the beach pier, when matt tried to make a pass.
A pass is not what melanie wanted at all.

"Maybe my parents were right, maybe i am too young.
Man, how could i be so dumb?" Melanie said.
With all of her strength, she pushed matt away.
"Take me home, matt please. I don't want to stay."
She said.
Annoyed, matt revved up the engine, and floored it.
In just a couple seconds, they were going too fast.
As matt drove like a madman, melanie knew that their lives were in danger.
She begged him to slow down, but he went faster as they got close to town.
"Oh god, just let me get home. I'll tell my parents i lied, that i really snuck out to go for a ride."
Melanie said.
All of a sudden, she saw a big flash coming from another car.
"Oh god, we're gonna crash!" She yelled.
Then everything went to black.

She felt someone lift her off the ground, and all she heard was, "Call an ambulance! These kids need help!"
Melanie wondered if matt was alright, and if the people from the other car were still alive.
She woke up in a hospital, with sad faces all around her.

"You were in a car wreck, and it was really bad."
a nurse said.
They told her that matt was dead.
"We did everything we could, but it seems like we're gonna lose you too."
The doctor said.
"What happened to the people in the other car?" Melanie asked.
"We're sorry, but they also died." They said.
"Oh god, i'm so sorry. I just wanted to have some fun.
Tell those peoples' family that i'm sorry for what i've done.
Tell mom and dad i'm sorry i lied to them.
And that it's my fault that many are dead.
Nurse, would you please tell them for me?" She asked.
The nurse just stood there, looking sad. She never agreed.
She took Melanie's hand, with tears in her eyes.
A couple moments later, melanie died.

The doctor asked the nurse, "Why didn't you agree to make that girl's last request?"
She looked at him with her eyes looking sad.
"Because the other people in the car, were her mom and dad"
